*DVA test is taken between Monday and Friday
You need to apply for your Provisional Licence. You can apply for the provisional licence when you are 16, but you are not allowed to drive a car until you are 17. For further details visit nidirect The provisional licence application form (D1) is available from your local Post Office and I recommend you apply about 3 months before your 17th birthday. You should then receive your license back in time to book your driving lessons for your birthday.
At the start of the practical driving test, your driving examiner will ask you to read the number plate on a parked vehicle.
The distance requirement for the eyesight test is:
This is approximately 5 car lengths. More information is available at nidirect
Before taking your first driving lesson with myself, I would advise any pupil to study the highway code and to start to prepare for your theory test. An online version of the Highway code is available, just follow this link…Highway Code.
Ian was a fantastic help in my driving , he explained things well and always stayed calm no matter what. I really enjoyed learning with someone who was not also good fun but who was very good at what he does too! The main thing I really appreciated was how he helped with my nerves and made me feel calm before my test. Thank you Ian 🙂

I recently passed my test on my birthday with only three minors! Ian is a pleasant, patient and thorough instructor who increased my confidence in driving and it was a pleasure to learn with him! I would recommend him to any first time drivers. Thanks Ian!

Thanks to Ian I got my first time pass today! He is an excellent driving instructor and really helped me to build up the necessary skills in order to drive well and safe on the roads. He plans lessons very well and is very patient in each lesson. He was always willing to help with any questions I had and when I encountered any problems he corrected them and explained them very well in a way that was easy to understand for the future. Thanks again Ian!

I passed my driving test with Ian Kettyle and can honestly say he is the best instructor I could have asked for! He helped me develop the confidence I never thought I could have when driving..gradually developing my ability to the standard I am now at and passing my test with only two minors! He really is fantastic at his job..patient and friendly is what any learner needs! I would absolutely recommend him to anyone wanting to start driving no matter how much training is needed..he's the man for the job! Thanks again Ian..il miss the lessons but I'm loving being qualified!!

Yesterday I passed my driving test first time, and I couldn't have done it without all the help from Ian my driving instructor, I would recommend him to anyone as he was such a great help and helped me gain so much confidence behind the wheel! Choosing Ian's driving school to learn with was the best choice I could have made!
